After making a number of splashes this offseason, the Milwaukee Bucks still have a little ways to go until they can really consider themselves a playoff team. The new owners may have a few more moves in mind, so expect the Bucks to continue to be active over the next couple of months leading up to the NBA season.

The Milwaukee Bucks announced their 2014 Summer League roster on Thursday, and there are a number of non-roster invitees that could be a dark horse to make the NBA roster. Former Wisconsin guards Ben Brust and Jordan Taylor will be among fan favorites to make the squad and the lack of guards signed to the roster could help their chances.

It was reported after the NBA Draft that the Bucks would play Jabari Parker at the four and keep Giannis playing small forward. That was before they made the coaching change with Jason Kidd, though, and his arrival could change that. Milwaukee will definitely watch the Summer League to see how he plays at both forward positions. Putting Parker where he is most comfortable should be Kidd’s top priority.

With new ownership and head coach Jason Kidd taking over, it could be wise to save up the cap space they have. It will allow for more flexibility offering free agents contracts in the future, while also giving them enough room to sign their younger players as their rookie deals expire. None of the free agents on the market really make a lot of sense in Milwaukee either, so expect them to sit tight in free agency.

2. Trade OJ Mayo

The Bucks have made it clear they are shopping veteran guard OJ Mayo. Unfortunately there will not be many teams rushing to call Milwaukee, but he does have value if he is packaged with a player like Brandon Knight or John Henson. Mayo still has a ton of potential as an offensive threat, but it seems to just not have worked out in Milwaukee. The downside of a trade here is they will have to provide incentive for a team to take on Mayo’s contract.

Ilyasova’s name has been brought up in trade talks for years now and the new owners should finally pull the trigger on a deal. Ilyasova has shown glimpses of brilliance, but has failed to harness any sort of consistency over his six-year career with Milwaukee. They have plenty of depth at forward and may look to package him with another player to upgrade the guard position.
