It is early into the NBA Summer League, but already a few Boston Celtics are proving their worth. James Young is ruled out for the entire Summer due to a lingering injury, opening the door for other players trying to navigate their way onto the court in the NBA regular season.
With several guards above him on the depth chart, Phil Pressey will have to work hard to get on the court this NBA season, but his talent has been showing. He is a smooth player, and at 23-years-old, he still has many years to grow and develop.
Summer league coach Jay Larranaga was very impressed with Mike Moser performances in the first games of the summer. Moser proved his versatility by crashing the board, defending well down low and hitting timely shots. He likes to show off his athleticism and he has looked good so far. Moser is an exciting prospect to watch.
Marcus Smart may not have lit up the stage like he did at Oklahoma State, but this kid sure can play. Many players in the past have struggled over the summer, then went on to preform well for their team. Take Trey Burke or Michael Carter-Williams for example. While he hasn't been stroking the jump shot, he has been rebounding and spreading the ball well. Give him a few years and Smart will make it in the NBA.
Ladies and gentlemen, Edwin Jackson, and were not talking about the Cubs pitcher. Both Jackson's can deal the ball, but this Frenchmen prefers the hard court. Racking up several assists and rebounds in only 17 minutes, it was Jackson's 14 points that were the most impressive in his first game.
We can't jump to conclusions, but its obvious Kelly Olynyk has plenty of offensive talent. He put up a good amount of points in his first two games of the Summer League and he looked poised with the ball. Last year, Olynyk's performances in the summer accumulated a lot of hype, but it was not until late in the season when he began to show some promise. Now let's see if Olynyk can carry his current success into the NBA regular season.
