Carmelo told a friend within hour “I believe in Phil.” Thursday is decision day & it looks like Melo’s coming home http://t.co/Z2BiBcxUmf

So that’s it, right? Well, there’s also this:
Within Anthony’s circle, belief’s been this, sources tell Y: Get NY’s $129M now, figure out destination later. You can always get a trade.

That second tweet will not make Knicks fans happy. But at least Melo is returning to the Big Apple to give the Knicks a shot at being relevant in 2014-15 and beyond.
The main piece of this equation is the idea that Anthony believes in Phil Jackson. He should. Nearly everything the Zen Master has touched in the NBA has literally turned to gold.
Even though Jackson is going into his first season as a basketball executive, he knows how to build a team the right way. He’s already started doing so with multiple moves this offseason; mainly the hiring of Derek Fisher as the team’s new head coach. Although Jackson won’t be yelling out play calls from the front office, you know he’ll have his pulse on everything that Fisher does on the court in practice and in games.
As for the part about Melo not being sold on New York in the long-term. How could he truly be? The team has been bad for many years, and it’s in a place where even one of the greatest basketball minds of all-time might not be able to fix it.
At least for now, Anthony has made the right decision. Why not try things out with the new regime in New York?
