Pau Gasol tweeted recently that he was ready for a "new chapter" of his NBA career, and it is hard to blame him considering the last couple years have not been kind for the Spanish big man. That is not a knock on his game but more on his coaches. I cannot fault Gasol for wanting to start over with an excellent team in the Chicago Bulls and an elite coach in Tom Thibodeau. Here are five reasons why the Windy City should expect a title.
Carlos Boozer can now go make his dinosaur roars on another team. He has not officially been amnestied by the Bulls yet, but the rumors are that a sign-and-trade might be imminent for the power forward. Either option should happen quite quickly.
Joakim Noah is not super comfortable in the low post, and this move will allow him to use his elite passing from the high post. Gasol does not need to play heavy minutes to be effective for the Bulls either, which should enable the entire team to enter the playoffs with fresh legs.
Gasol has a mastery of the dribble handoff and the triangle offense's intricate passing scheme, but the Spaniard also can shoot the jumper when he is left open. If Derrick Rose is healthy, then the Chicago native will be thanking the big man for all of the new space by the end of the year.
Tom Thibodeau always struggled with trusting Carlos Boozer on the defensive end. Well, now the head coach does not have to worry about quality play at the power forward position, but it is just too bad they most likely can't clear enough cap room for Dwyane Wade.
The Indiana Pacers might have one of the best front lines in the East, but the Bulls are now the top squad in the conference when it comes to their bigs. The NBA just got a little bit more fun with Gasol's arrival to the Windy City, and things should get super interesting now that Luol Deng has signed with the Miami Heat.
