New Dallas Mavericks small forward Chandler Parsons is expected to play that same position this upcoming season, but apparently he might also find himself bringing the ball up the court.
Just got off the phone with Rick Carlisle, who said he plans on playing Chandler Parsons everywhere from point guard to power forward.

In spite of Parson’s versatility on the offensive end, some NBA fans might shake their head at Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle‘s idea of playing Parsons at point guard. But check this out: Parsons, amongst small forwards, finished sixth in the NBA in APG this past season with a 4.0. Watching the pretty boy play, it’s easy to not even notice how tall he is (6-foot-9) because he moves like a quick guard.
So maybe point ‘guard’ is a stretch, but it’s not too strange to picture Parsons playing the Scottie Pippen-like point forward position. The Mavericks currently don’t have a legitimate starting point guard on the roster. Even if the Mavericks sign someone like Maurice Williams, he, just like Devin Harris, is an above-average backup point guard at this humble stage of his less-than-illustrious career.
And don’t even mention the name Raymond Felton.
So just like former Mavericks coaching great Don Nelson used to compensate for lackluster point guards by having a point forward run the offense, that might just be the best bet for the Mavericks once the upcoming season hits. And yes, nobody is getting Parsons confused with Cleveland Cavaliers icon LeBron James, but the pretty boy is versatile enough to get it done.
