The Minnesota Timberwolves are a difficult team to gauge because they are an average team at best. Recently, Minnesota has discussed trading away Kevin Love, but have yet to pull the trigger on any trade. In a loaded Western Conference, addressing these five priorities will assist the Timberwolves in becoming a respectable team.

Nikola Pekovic posted averages of 17.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this past season. Unfortunately, he has had his fair share of injuries, which have cost him at least 20 games in each of the past three seasons. Clearly, when Pekovic is on the floor, he produces at a high level. To be a formidable team, the Timberwolves will need Pekovic to stay healthy and tally similar numbers to those he has produced in the past two seasons.

For Minnesota, Flip Saunders is replacing Rick Adelman as the head coach of the Timberwolves, which will be coupled with his duties as President of Basketball Operations. Saunders’ task is far from easy because Minnesota does not seem to have a sound plan on their goals for upcoming seasons. This indecisiveness has been highlighted by how the organization has dealt with a potential Kevin Love trade.

If the Timberwolves are fully committed to Ricky Rubio as the point guard of their future, he will need to improve his jump-shooting ability drastically. A career 32.3 percent three-point shooter, Rubio has shown no signs of improving as a shooter so far in his career. Rubio can certainly pass, but point guards in today's NBA must have the ability to spread the floor and score as well.

2. Get Rid Of Kevin Martin's Contract

Kevin Martin's contract is questionable, as he will make about 21 million dollars over the next three seasons. For a team that does not look to be close to winning a title, his minutes would probably be better given to a younger player. Including Martin in a Kevin Love trade would be a smart decision, free up cap space and opening up minutes for players with potential to improve over time.

With a player option at the end of the season, Kevin Love will be leaving the Timberwolves at the end of the season. Minnesota has been searching for an acceptable offer for Love, and the Timberwolves will eventually need to trade him. Obviously, this move would hurt any chances the Timberwolves have of improving upon last year's win total of 40, but Minnesota has to get something in return for Love before he leaves by opting out.
