5 Reasons Why Yuki Togashi Won't Make It In the NBA

Yuki Togashi has taken summer league by storm and has quickly become a fan favorite. As much as he is seemingly talented and well-liked, here are five reasons he won't succeed in the NBA.

Let’s just get this one out of the way. The guy stands at a whopping 5-foot-7, and that is most likely with lifts in his shoes, while standing on his tippy-toes. We have only seen a handful of players ever succeed in the NBA at such a miniscule stature, and while fans are eager to root for someone they can look in the eye, I think they are going to have to wait a while longer.

There have only been two other Japanese to ever appear on an NBA roster, Yuta Tabuse, who appeared in a meager four games in a Phoenix Suns uniform in 2004, and Watura Misaka, who was actually the first non-caucasian player to ever play in the NBA back in 1947. For whatever reason, Japanese culture and heritage doesn’t lend itself to the NBA.

Graduating from the same high school as Kevin Durant, Togashi received absolutely zero attention from any Division 1 colleges. Surely if 351 Division 1 schools passed on him, it was for a good reason.

2. His build and lack of athleticism

Togashi has recently been compared to Muggsy Bogues, for obvious reasons, but once you get beyond the height factor, their games are really not that similar. Togashi is far less athletic, and has a much leaner build. This would make it nearly impossible to compensate for his lack of height, as he is not that physically impressive in any other areas.

This one hurts to say, because I really do like the guy, but he just isn’t that good. I mean if he was playing in a rec league, he would clearly stand out, but against other NBA hopefuls, he is just a short guy who makes one shot, and the world goes crazy. I mean, he is averaging about five points per game, and has one assist total, in four games. Not exactly a world-beater.
