Moe Williams is one of the better veteran point guards in the NBA, and he has gotten significant attention as a free agent this summer from countless teams around the league. Williams has become a mentor for younger guards around the league; most recently, helping Damien Lillard develop into a quality starting point guard for the Portland Trailblazers. Here are the top five landing spots for Mo Williams.

The New York Knicks are in desperate need of a quality point guard, even with the signing of Jose Calderon. Phil Jackson has made it known that he wants to make the Knicks a title contender now. Bringing in a veteran point guard who can score in bunches is a great first step towards the Knicks title hopes.

Although the Miami Heat currently have three point guards on their roster, the franchise is in desperate need of a dependable point guard. Mo Williams would have to accept the veteran’s minimum in order to join the Heat’s roster, but it would be his best chance at getting back to the NBA Finals (due to playing in a weak Eastern Conference).

3. Portland Trailblazers

It makes the most sense for Mo Williams to rejoin the franchise that he has spent the last year with, mentoring Damien Lillard. Unfortunately, the signing of Steve Blake seems to spell the end of Williams’ tenure in Portland. If Williams were to come back, he would receive sparse minutes behind both Lilard and Blake in the rotation, which might not be ideal, considering he still wants to make a rotational impact for the franchise he signs with.

2. Houston Rockets

If Mo Williams is looking to join a title contender out West, he needs to look no further than the Houston Rockets. Currently, the Rockets have just Ish Smith and Patrick Beverly in the point guard rotation, so the franchise could use a guard that can create their own offense off the dribble. Williams would fit this bill quite nicely.

1. Dallas Mavericks

This is the team most likely to land Mo Williams. Not only does he have a home in Dallas, the Mavericks also have the cap space to offer Williams a longer contract. The Mavericks have made it known that they want Williams in Dallas, and he would be a perfect fit in the backcourt rotation. Currently, Raymond Felton and Devin Harris are the only point guards on the Mavericks roster, so Williams could find himself starting once the season begins.
