Apparently, the New York Knicks have decided to jump into the Kevin Love sweepstakes. The Knicks offered Amar’e Stoudemire, Iman Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Minnesota Timberwolves for their star player. This offer by the Knicks and Phil Jackson is laughable, and the Timberwolves were smart to decline the trade.
Love, who is a free agent at the end of the year, has been rumored to have requested a trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The only other team that has been a legitimate threat to the Cavaliers has been the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls don’t have the young assets that the Cavaliers have, but they do have a lot of draft picks.
The Knicks, however, do not have enough assets to land Love. The only two intriguing pieces they have are Shumpert and Hardaway Jr. They have limited draft picks over the next couple of years, something a team like the Timberwolves would want if they were going to part with their best player. Add on top of that the fact that the Knicks tried to unload Stoudemire’s ridiculous contract, and you end up here, with the Timberwolves shutting down the Knicks.
Quite frankly, the Knicks should be embarrassed for even attempting that trade. Anyone in their right mind would not make that deal. Love is one of the best players in the entire NBA, and it would take much more than a young player, an inconsistent player with injury problems entering his fourth year and an aging player with a ridiculous contract to get a top 10 player in the league.
This Knicks offer is laughable. We expect better from you, Phil.
