The first ever FIBA World Cup of basketball is going down this summer, and we all know that Team USA is the favorite to bring home a Gold medal. Derrick Rose's knee, Kevin Durant's return, roster cuts, and Anthony Davis are all among the topics we will touch on in this slideshow. Here are the five key stories you should be aware of as the team starts to cut its roster down to size.

We will get to roster cuts in a second, but I just wanted to touch quickly on Kevin Durant's recent comments about D.C. He obviously noticed the public reception to LeBron James' decision to return home, and I believe that KD will one day come back to the DMV.

DeMarcus Cousins has a checkered past with Team USA to say the least. This squad needs as many big men as they can get though, and we all know that it is going to come down to a Gold medal game against Spain. Cousins could be the player who puts them over the top.

I am still not sure that Rose wants to join the team. The practices this week could be a way for him to play his way into better shape before the upcoming season with the Chicago Bulls, but we will have to see what happens with these roster cuts.

Rose will make the team if he wants, but it is quite a crowded roster at the guard positions. In the end, John Wall might end up getting the ax, because Kyrie Irving is a favorite of this coaching staff. Stephen Curry is no scrub either.

Durant recently said that Anthony Davis was next in line to be league MVP, and it will be scary to see how many blocks "The Unibrow" has in store for us next season. His improved jump shot will only make matters worse for the rest of the Western Conference, but first we get to watch him ascend to superstardom in Spain.
