Atlanta Hawks' Kyle Korver Will Make Team USA Roster

Team USA Basketball will hold its final scrimmage game tonight at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. The players vying for spots on the roster will be split into the Blue team against White team. Rumors have been flying about who is a lock and who coach Mike Krzyzewski is still undecided on.

Sources close to the situation say Atlanta Hawks‘ sharpshooter Kyle Korver is basically a given to make Team USA. Krzyzewski has shown a great appreciation for what he provides offensively. Korver is a one of the few highly valuable specialists at his position in the entire NBA according to John Shumann of NBA.com. After all, Korver does hold the record for most consecutive games with a three-pointer which he set this past season. He surpassed the previous record holder, Dana Barros, by 38 games.  At 33 years of age, Korver is constantly trying to better himself which is a proven quality of true winner.

Korver provides solid consistency that is unmatched by his other comrades on Team USA. After practice yesterday in Las Vegas, Korver and fellow USA teammate Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors had a three-point shootout. They made their way around the arc by hitting from seven spots, and Korver came out as the victor. His high level of efficiency led him to the highest percentage of threes in the NBA in 2013-14 with 47 percent.

Korver gives Krzyzewski more freedom on the offensive end of the court without sacrificing anything defensively. His constant threat for draining threes at any place on the floor forces a defender to tightly guard him at all times. When he is mistakenly left open, a three gliding through the net is guaranteed. When he is tightly covered, lanes are opened up for driving to the hoop.

Paul Millsap and Korver’s chances at potential coveted spots on Team USA’s roster speaks volumes to what GM Danny Ferry is building in Atlanta. Key players of the Hawks are once again being recognized nationally and are representing America on its biggest stage. This renewed respect for Atlanta’s athletes has just begun and will continue to grow with more success. Best of luck to Korver, Millsap and Team USA in Spain.
