New York Knicks: 5 Free Agents Team Should Still Pursue

The New York Knicks are a long way away from contending for an NBA title, but a playoff berth is not out of the question. There are a few areas of need on the roster that the Knicks could still upgrade. Here are my best available free agents who can still help out the Knicks this upcoming season.

5. Andray Blatche

Even though he is a bit of a hot-head at times, Blatche is a big body the Knicks could use down low in the paint. He plays with a lot of passion, sometimes too much, and he gives the Knicks a boost in the frontcourt. The only problem is that Blatche wants a big contract, and the Knicks don't have a lot of money to dish out. If Blatche drops his price tag then the Knicks could be a good fit for him.

The 6-foot-10, 34-year-old PF is not the player that he used to be, but that doesn't mean he can't play a niche-type of role in the NBA. He only had 4.5 PPG and 1.8 RPG last season for the Miami Heat, but he did hit some big shots in the NBA Playoffs. The Knicks are a team that lives and dies by the three, and that is something that Lewis does pretty well.

3. Byron Mullens

Mullens is only 25 years old, and he is a PF/C who can step outside and hit the three. After a solid 10.6 PPG and 5.0 REB season with the Charlotte Bobcats in 2012, he has taken a big step back as his playing time and production dipped in the last two years. The Knicks love big men who can shoot from the outside, and if Mullens can recapture some of his old play a few years back he would be a cheaper Andrea Bargnani.

2. Shawn Marion

Marion is a veteran who does a little bit of everything. He does not do one thing particularly well, but he is a jack-of-all trades and the Knicks could use his versatility in the lineup. Even at the age of 36, Marion has managed put up 10+ PPG and 6+ REB a game dating all the way back to 1999. Yeah, I know that's pretty crazy. If the Knicks can get him for cheap they would be crazy not to take that kind of production from the respected veteran.

I would love to see Al Harrington back with the blue and orange, because he would be a great veteran presence at the SF/PF position. And as I mentioned, the Knicks need some height and some depth. Harrington is from NJ, so I'm sure he'd love to come back to New York to finish off his final NBA run. He's had two down seasons only averaging about six points a game, but his highest career PPG average came in 2008 with the Knicks at 20.8 PPG.
