Top 5 Ways Kevin Love Trade Changed the NBA

Kevin Love is a gifted player -- there is no doubt about that. Love averaged an absurd 26.1 PPG and 12.5 REB per game last season and he can shoot the ball from beyond the arc too. There is no one knocking his talent, but now that he pretty much forced his way out of Minnesota, he changed the Timberwolves and the NBA way of building a team from the ground up.

LeBron going back to Cleveland is a nice redemption story, but when he went to the Heat he became the villain. If Kevin Love wanted to do things "the right way" he would've re-signed with the Timberwolves and helped his teammates develop and get better. I'm not saying that he is wrong for leaving, but it just seems as if players are so quick to forget about the team that drafted them and helped turn them into the starts they are today.

Teams like the Milwaukee Bucks, Utah Jazz and Charlotte Hornets are always going to be at a disadvantage because they aren't attractive locations to NBA players. It's going to be hard for a team to build a team through the draft, wait for their players to develop over time and then sign them to a contract once they prove their worth. Players are going to be difficult to hold onto as long as there is a salary cap for small market teams.

The rebuilding phase in the NBA does not sit well with a lot of fans -- they want results right away. Love got tired of waiting around for a chance to play in the playoffs so he jetted to Cleveland. Players want rings and it seems as if they will do whatever it takes to get one even if it means teaming up with other superstars in order to do so.

Now that Kevin Love is with LeBron James, the Cavs become a new version of the Miami Heat. Love is a likable guy, but since he is no longer trying to win on his own he deserves some hate for teaming up with another All-Star, actually make that two with Kyrie Irving. I know if Love ever makes it to an NBA Finals against a team like the San Antonio Spurs I will be rooting hard for the Spurs because Love took the easy way to get there.

This is the new way of the NBA whether you like it or not. Star players want to play with star players and at the end of the day they are going to get their way. It's fun to watch these big name players play with each other, but it takes away from the classic NBA way of building through the draft and developing players over time.
