Today is the day NBA fans have been eagerly waiting for. As of Saturday, the Minnesota Timberwolves can officially trade Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers for No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins. Even though neither team has released an official press release regarding the trade, the Timberwolves have taken it into their own to announce the deal in a newspaper ad in the Pioneer Press.
Minnesota will receive Wiggins, former No. 1 overall draft pick Anthony Bennett and Thaddeus Young in the three-team trade with Cleveland and the Philadelphia 76ers. Meanwhile, the 76ers will get Alexey Shved, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and a 2015 first-round draft pick for making Young a part of the trade. And, of course, the Cavaliers will receive Love, which is still the best deal in the trade, in my opinion.
If you are wondering how the NBA feels about teams making announcements in newspaper ads prior to any official announcement, I have to imagine they are not too pleased. Regardless, the deal is about as done as it gets, which means the Cavaliers have become the new powerhouse in the Eastern Conference, once again.
If anything, the newspaper ad shuts down any chance of the Phoenix Suns swooping in and making a deal. Rumors began to circulate that the Suns were attempting to trade Eric Bledsoe for Love. Of course, Minnesota is far better off with their current deal. The reason being they will receive stellar young talent that should make them contenders down the road.
