The Portland Trailblazers are a historic NBA organization and won the NBA Championship in 1977. Choosing an all-time starting five is going to be a tough one, but this is who I have for the Portland Trail Blazers.
Terry Porter is my choice for all-time point guard for the Portland Trail Blazers. During his 10 seasons as a Blazer, he averaged 14.9 points, seven assists and nearly two steals per game as well as 18.2 points per game in the playoffs.
Clyde Drexler is my choice for all-time shooting guard for the Portland Trail Blazers. The “Glide” played 12 seasons for the Blazers averaging 20.8 points, six rebounds and nearly six assists per game. Drexler also averaged 21.8 points per game in the playoffs.
This one was a tough choice, but I’ll call the all-time small forward of the Portland Trail Blazers Jerome Kersey. He spent 12 seasons in a Rip City uniform averaging 12.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, but he’s more remembered for his all around hustle and tough defense.
Maurice Lucas is my choice for all-time power forward for the Portland Trail Blazers. During his five-year stint with the club, Lucas averaged 15.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and eight assists. His all-around offensive game was something to see as was his tough interior defense, plus he was a leader, along with Bill Walton, of the 1977 NBA Championship team.
Bill Walton only played four seasons, but he’s still my choice for all-time Portland Trail Blazers center. While he was there, he averaged 16.9 points, 13.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game and was the leader, along with Maurice Lucas, of the 1977 Trail Blazer team that won the NBA Championship.
