The Milwaukee Bucks have a long way to go if they want to be considered a top-eight team in the Eastern Conference. Even though the team has plenty of work to do, that doesn’t mean fans can’t be optimistic about Milwaukee’s chances. Here’s a look at five important early games the Bucks must win, or at least be competitive, if they want a chance in 2014-15.

Milwaukee’s first game of the regular season is against the Charlotte Hornets. It’s important for the Bucks to make an early impression, especially on the road. Not to mention, Charlotte was a playoff team last season, which means Milwaukee will have a good opportunity to prove themselves against a quality opponent.

Speaking of playoffs, the New York Knicks were the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference, which means they narrowly missed out on a postseason berth. If the Bucks are determined to make it to the playoffs, the Knicks are a team they will have to get past. Plus, New York has a stellar roster, so it will give Milwaukee plenty to handle.

The Washington Wizards are an upcoming team in the Eastern Conference. In actuality, they are everything the Bucks should have been the past couple of seasons. Instead, Milwaukee has been forced to build from scratch while Washington looks to improve on their 44-38 record. Playing the Wizards the third game of the season will show how far the Bucks have to go to be competitive in the conference.

The Indiana Pacers have been the class of the division the past few years, which is why playing them in the fourth game of the season will show Milwaukee where they stack up. The Pacers are a dominant team, one that should have their way with the Bucks. However, if Milwaukee can hold its own against the powerhouse, then they might be able to build some much-needed confidence.

Even though the rivalry has been lopsided in basketball for quite some time, there’s no denying that Wisconsin and Chicago sports fans love to watch their teams beat the other. Hopefully, the basketball rivalry will pick up some steam this season, with Milwaukee’s first chance at defeating the Chicago Bulls coming on Nov. 5.
