The Houston Rockets failed to get past the first round of the 2013-2014 NBA Playoffs losing in six games to the Portland Trailblazers. The Rockets are depending on All-Stars Dwight Howard and James Harden to carry this team to the top of the Western Conference. These five early games should be a very good indication as to what we can expect from the 2014-2015 Houston Rockets.

The defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs roll into town to take on the Rockets in a nationally televised game. This should be a real test for the Rockets and a win at home could go a long way in determining just where the Rockets match up against the elite of the NBA Western Conference.

The “Splash Brothers” along with new Head Coach Steve Kerr are in town to take on the Rockets, which should be a high scoring entertaining affair. This is a game where the Rockets Dwight Howard should dominate and hopefully Coach Kevin McHale can convince James Harden to play defense. The question is will they be able to?

The Houston Rockets head to Loud City to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. This should be an incredible litmus test to see just where the Rockets are at against one of the elite teams in the Western Conference. A road win in OKC will be HUGE for the Rockets.

After back- to-back games with the Thunder and Houston faces the Memphis Grizzlies on the road. That is heinous, but if the Rockets are to be taken as serious contenders in the NBA Western Conference, then winning road games against the best will be essential. It will be fun to watch the grit and grind Grizzlies matchup with the running Rockets.

This is going to be a fun night of basketball when the Dallas Mavericks come to town for this Saturday night matchup with the Rockets. I’m looking forward to seeing how former Rocket, now Maverick, Chandler Parsons fares in his return to Houston. Houston will want to win this clash against another possible playoff team. If they don’t it could be a long season for the Rockets.
