Top 5 Point Guards In Philadelphia 76ers History By Alex Moss PREV NEXT Philadelphia Sixers: Top 5 Point Guards In Team History Getty Images The last iteration of a great 76ers team was during the diminutive bad boy Allen Iverson, and they have relied primarily on strong guard play from players like Jrue Holiday and now Michael Carter-Williams to keep the team afloat. Looking back at some of the Sixers’ greatest guards, here are five of the top point guards in franchise history. 5. Andre Miller Getty Images 5. During his tenure in Philadelphia, Miller was the driving force behind the Sixers’ offense, averaging 15 points, seven assists and over four rebounds per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. 4. Jrue Holiday Getty Images 4. Jrue Holiday Getty Images Before he was shipped down the the Bayou for Nerlens Noel, Holiday lit up the floor in Philadelphia during his first four seasons as a pro. His efforts in his last season were rewarded with an All-Star nod; that season, Holiday averaged almost 18 and eight, highlighting his development as a pro. If Holiday had stuck with Philly, he would easily be one or two slots higher on this list. 3. Larry Costello Getty Images 3. Costello’s main job was to set the table for Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain and Hal Greer, which he did with grace. However, Costello was still able to get his own, averaging 13 points and almost five assists over his career with the franchise. 2. Maurice Cheeks Getty Images 2. Maurice Cheeks Getty Images Cheeks was a longtime Sixer and gifted passer who played on the legendary 76ers teams of the mid-1980s with Julius Erving, Moses Malone and Charles Barkley. Cheeks ran that potent offense well, allowing Malone, Erving and Barkley to thrive and dominate the competition. While his coaching tenure with Philly may have left much to be desired, his work at point guard represents the Sixers’ golden era. 1. Allen Iverson Getty Images 1. The Answer played a fair amount of his minutes early on as shooting guard, but he resembled a ball-dominant point guard most in his play style. Widely known for his scoring abilities and fearless playmaking, Iverson almost single-handedly brought the Sixers to the 2001 Finals, giving the Kobe and Shaq-led Los Angeles Lakers, one of the greatest teams of all time, a run for their money.
