The Oklahoma City Thunder are heading into the 2014-15 NBA season with enormous expectations. With Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and Serge Ibaka comprising their core, this is a team with title aspirations. Coming into this season, you have to believe that the Thunder are all business.
Well, almost all business.
For Thunder Media Day on Monday, second-year center Steven Adams showed up looking more distinguished, fiercer, and ready for competition. He also showed up sporting a magnificent mustache, seen in the top picture.
A grown man rocking a mustache is nothing out of the norm and honestly nothing too special. However, what makes Adams’ decision to go with this choice of facial hair is that he did it for the sole purpose of having himself pictured with a mustache in the Thunder’s media guide, stating his reasoning as, “So when someone opens up the book, ‘stache.”
Adams has quickly established himself as a fan-favorite in Oklahoma City in his brief time in the NBA and, with instances like this one, it’s not hard to understand why. He has an infectiously jovial personality that comes through in his antics, when his teammates speak about him, and in many other areas.
His off-the-court personality is what makes his on-court demeanor so special. When he’s on the floor, he’s a brick wall, afraid of nothing and willing to take on any challenge. It’s that on-court demeanor that’s possibly going to earn him the starting center job in OKC at some point this season—and when a new fan opens up the media guide to learn more about the Kiwi center, ‘stache.
