The Detroit Pistons made a big splash with the hiring of Stan Van Gundy this offseason. He will be looking to turn the franchise around quickly, but how quickly it happens remains to be seen. Here are five realistic expectations for the upcoming season.

5. The Pistons Will be Top 10 in the NBA in Scoring

Last season Detroit ranked 14th in the NBA in scoring, so they don't need a huge jump to crack the top 10. They brought in some very good offensive talent this offseason and have some returning players who should be improved. That along with SVG's new offense will be enough for them to crack the top 10.

4. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Will Have a Breakout Season

As a rookie last season, KCP struggled at times. The talent is there, however, and this season he will be competing for the starting shooting guard spot with Jodie Meeks. KCP's size, athletic ability and potential on defense will likely win him the starting job. If his Summer League performance is any indicator he should be poised for a great year.

Last season Detroit was second to last in the NBA in three-point FG percentage. This year that will improve dramatically. The Pistons added great three-point shooters in Jodie Meeks, DJ Augustin and Caron Butler. Along with holdovers KCP and Kyle Singler, the Pistons will have a lot more shooting depth. It also helps that SVG's offense is very three-point shooting friendly.

2. Andre Drummond Will be an All-Star

Andre Drummond was close to being an All-Star last season, and this season he will not be denied. Drummond has improved tremendously since coming into the league, and he seems to get better every time he is on the court. During the month of April last season Drummond averaged 18.4 PPG, 17.4 RPG, 1.4 SPG and 1.0 BPG. He also shot over 64 percent from the field and was dominant at both ends of the floor. That dominance will continue this season.

Stan Van Gundy has never had a losing season in his NBA coaching career. That, coupled with the fact that Detroit plays in the weak Eastern Conference, makes this a perfect opportunity for the Pistons to make the playoffs. I'm not expecting a 50-win season by an means, but 42-45 wins and a 6-8 seed in the East is a realistic goal for this Detroit team. The talent was there last season, and now they've added the right coach to go along with it.
