Injury to Orlando Magic’s Victor Oladipo Thankfully Not Serious

When Orlando Magic star guard Victor Oladipo went down last Friday, all of Central Florida held its breath. When he got back up and was able to finish the scrimmage, fans were relieved, but still anxious because an MRI still lingering just around the corner.

Thankfully, the MRI came back as a sprained MCL (medial collateral ligament) in his right knee, which will keep him out for a couple of preseason games, but he should be ready for the regular season. Channing Frye also sustained the same injury in his left knee.

This could had been a lot worse for Oladipo and Magic fans. Orlando has pegged this year as the year the team would return back to relevance; the year the Magic return to the playoffs. All of that was in question after Oladipo’s awkward fall during a scrimmage on Friday.

Oladipo is the team’s unquestioned leader, and Magic GM Rob Hennigan made it a point this past summer to build the team around his young star. Oladipo has worked on his offensive game all summer, and now looks to lead the team back to glory.

But for a brief moment, that almost looked to be a pipe dream. Sure, the Magic have Tobias Harris and Nikola Vucevic to lean on, but Oladipo is the motor oil in the Magic’s engine, and without that oil, Orlando would not be able to go very far in 2014-15.

Let’s all give thanks to the basketball gods for keeping Oladipo from serious injury — thank you basketball gods.
