The Miami Heat could have a very tumultuous season ahead of them. With all of the new additions to the roster, cohesiveness could be one of the reasons why this roster struggles right out of the gate into the regular season. Nonetheless, having training camp and the preseason should help fix some of these issues. Here are five storylines to follow for the Miami Heat during the preseason.

Coach Erik Spoelstra has made it perfectly clear that the starting point guard position is very much up for grabs, and with the way Norris Cole has thoroughly outplayed Mario Chalmers in both training camp and the first two preseason games, don’t be surprised to see Cole become the new starting point guard for the Miami Heat.

4. James Ennis Emerging As A Quality Role Player

The depth behind the small forward position isn’t great for the Miami Heat. Outside of Luol Deng and Danny Granger on occasion, the Heat organization doesn’t really have many other options at the wing. James Ennis brings a youthful spark off the bench, especially at the SF position. This will be the season that Ennis emerges as a legitimate role player for the Heat.

3. Danny Granger Finding His Rhythm Again

Danny Granger was once one of the best small forwards in the game, until crippling injuries debilitated his career. Granger is attempting to make a comeback in the biggest way by attempting to fill the void left by the greatest basketball player on the planet in LeBron James. If Granger can perform anywhere near his average production levels from playing in Indiana, the Heat will have gotten the steal of the century.

Although he is technically the third-string point guard on the Miami Heat’s roster, Shabazz Napier has the potential to leapfrog either Mario Chalmers or Norris Cole in the rotation, especially if Coach Erik Spoelstra decides to utilize Chalmers as more of a shooting guard. Napier hasn’t performed well since signing with the Heat this summer, but all of that could change once he becomes more comfortable with the system.

Now touting the biggest contract on the Miami Heat roster, Chris Bosh has put a lot of this team’s future success on his lanky shoulders. With the absence of LeBron James in the post, expect Bosh to hang out in the paint a lot more, becoming a crucial focal point on both offense and defense.
