LeBron James Should Not Be Surprised by Miami Heat Comments

The 2014 NBA free agency fallout is playing out too much like 2010. However, instead of the Cleveland Cavaliers crying “victim,” the Miami Heat have taken a much more tactical approach. There haven’t been videos of people rioting and burning jerseys; South Beach hasn’t condemned James and Micky Arison didn’t write a poorly thought-out letter with horrible predictions.

Instead of throwing a hissy fit like Dan Gilbert and all of Cleveland did four years ago, the Heat and the former teammates of James have thrown quiet, but obviously hurtful jabs. Acting like the innocent puppy, James was caught off-guard by what Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers have said.

“I know a lot of words have come out of their camp as of late and some of it is surprising,” said James after Friday’s practice.

He went on to mention the history they have together and what was accomplished over the last four seasons. Yet, James doesn’t seem to realize that he broke Miami’s heart and left them for dead.

If there is one difference between the 2010 situation with the Cavs and this year’s debacle, it’s the simple fact that the Heat and Pat Riley delivered on their promise: to crown James a champion.

If James can’t figure out why Chalmers referred to him as “that guy,” or why Bosh hasn’t spoken to him since the break-up, then he truly is blinded by his egomaniacal, sociopathic ways. None of this talk should come as any surprise. In fact, James should be surprised that the reaction hasn’t been worse.

After all, it isn’t like he politely informed Miami that he was leaving weeks in advanced. Instead, Riley and the Heat franchise were quite convinced their former star was returning. So convinced that they only had one player under contract when free agency began. By the time James announced his decision, they should have been dead in the water.

For James, it appears he is always right and can do no wrong. No matter his decision and the effects, he is innocent or the victim. If he is so surprised by the comments, then keep it coming, Miami. It seems that the subtle “trash talk” is getting under James’ skin. Bosh put it perfectly: “we’ll see each other on the court” … In Saturday’s preseason meeting in Brazil. “That’s plenty of time to catch up.”
