Chris Bosh should be one of the more interesting players to watch over the course of the season as he will be thrust into a much more pivotal role. His game has evolved significantly since joining the Miami Heat, but now he must alter major elements of his game once again in order for the Heat to maintain a level of competitiveness. Here are five goals Bosh should set for himself this season.

Last season, Bosh attempted 218 three-pointers. In the 10 seasons that preceded that, he took a total of 302 combined. There’s no doubt that he has improved his efficiency from long distance, but a “power” forward taking that many long bombs is uncalled for. The Heat will definitely need him to be a bit more versatile and even (gasp) move into the paint now and then.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but it seems like every game, a new meme is created from a terrible picture of Bosh. Maybe the guy should just be a tiny bit more aware of his surroundings and facial expressions. Not that this really matters in the grand scheme of things, but I really just feel bad for the guy sometimes.

This probably goes hand in hand with the first point, but Bosh needs to be more physical and bang around a little inside the paint. He was once a 10 RPG player, but his rebounding stats have gone down every year since joining the Heat. He is big and talented enough where this shouldn’t even be an issue. He should be able to roll out of bed and pull down 10 boards per night.

2. Become A Much Better Passer

Of the 79 power forwards rated for the 2013-14 season, Bosh came in 67th in assist ratio with a 6.8 rating. This means for every 100 possessions, Bosh is producing just over six assists. That is awful. To put that into perspective, new teammate Josh McRoberts came in first overall with a 32.7 rating. Again, Bosh is talented enough to be a much better passer, and his team will need him to now that he will be double-teamed more often.

There was a time when Bosh was the unquestioned leader of his former Raptors team. When he came to Miami, he was expected to take a backseat to LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, which he did admirably. Now that LeBron is gone and with Wade showing the signs of his wear and tear, Bosh will need to take on a much more central role on this team. All indications are that he is more than ready to step up.
