The Orlando Magic have received little attention during the offseason and preseason, and the little attention the team did get was mostly criticizing Magic GM Rob Hennigan’s free agent and draft choices.

However, as the 2014 preseason has shown, Hennigan’s gambles are paying off in more ways than one. In no game was that more evident than the Magic’s win over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night, when the Magic displayed what was possibly to come in the 2014-15 NBA season.

Nikola Vucevic looks like he is primed to become the top center in the East, Aaron Gordon, Orlando’s No. 4 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, displayed some outside range of his own, Elfrid Payton is making his case even stronger to be the Magic’s starting point guard, and Evan Foruiner, despite a rough start, looks like he will develop into the team’s point-forward.

But what about Ben Gordon? The man who looked like he was in the twilight of his career is turning back the clock and is looking like the scorer that he once was for the Chicago Bulls. In short, Gordon has really impressed.

Once Victor Oladipo and Channing Frye rejoin the fray, this Magic team looks like it is ready to play with the big boys in the league. Don’t be surprised to see the Magic in the postseason this season, as Orlando has the talent to do some major damage.
