Tyler Johnson Could Be The Answer To Miami Heat’s Problems

Who is this Tyler Johnson? This season, the Miami Heat have had to take opportunities as they come since LeBron James left. This is especially true at the “swingman” position, where Dwyane Wade and Luol Deng play. If the Miami Heat are going to be successful, then they are going to need players to step in for some of the older legs on the roster.

Wade was on a maintenance plan last year, and even though he has looked considerably better than he has in the last two years conditioning-wise, he is probably going to be on some kind of plan this year as well. He may not be asked to sit as many games because Miami is going to need him, but they may control his minutes similar to what Greg Popovich does with Tim Duncan.

Danny Granger has been brought in to help fill this hole, but as I watched the recent preseason game that Miami played against the San Antonio Spurs, I kept asking myself, “who is this Johnson guy on the court?” The 6-foot-4 guard scored 17 against the Spurs. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, when loose balls got away from players, I always saw him in the mix of it.

This is a player who can potentially provide a scoring punch off the bench against 6-f00t-5 or 6-foot-6 guards, and play with Joakim Noah-esque ferocity. That is a player that I would want on my team, and I think that he would be a good addition to the Heat roster.

Many have been asking where the Heat will to get scoring and defense outside of the “Big 2.” Maybe Johnson could be an answer to that question.
