One day this season, Gregg Popovich will wake up in a good mood. It’s even more unlikely, but he will even enjoy being interviewed. This is going to be a stretch in the foreseeable future, but stranger things have happened. One thing is for sure, it wouldn't be as entertaining as “Pop” we all know and love.

It may be hard to believe an NBA Finals MVP like Kawhi Leonard hasn’t even been an All-Star yet. With more expected from Leonard this year, he will improve upon last season’s averages of 12.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and two assists. The noticeable improvement will land him as a reserve on the Western Conference All-Star team.

One of the biggest strengths for the Spurs is their ability to shoot the three ball well. Last season, they led the NBA in three-point percentage (39 percent) with only 1,757 attempts. With the added shooting ability of Kyle Anderson and the evolution of Kawhi Leonard’s game, the Spurs will bump up that shooting percentage to over 40 this season.

Marco Belinelii was the sleeper pick of last season’s NBA All-Star three-point contest. He was able to knock out the likes of Stephen Curry, Kevin Love and Damian Lillard to grab the coveted title. It didn’t stop there, as he finished the season shooting an outstanding 43 percent from beyond the arc. Look for Belinelli to continue his lights-out shooting and successfully defend his trey ball crown.

The Spurs' first round draft pick, Kyle Anderson, has the attributes that will allow him to make an immediate impact. After his rookie learning curve passes, he will even get the chance to produce as a starter. The spot may open up because of eventual injuries, Popovich’s lineup experiments, or the end of season garbage time. Either way, Anderson will start at some point this season.

Last season, the Spurs were able to earn the No.1 overall seed in the playoffs with the best record in the NBA (62-20). It was pretty impressive, considering all the injuries they had to overcome. With virtually the same roster back, there is no reason why they shouldn’t produce the same results. You can look for the Spurs to finish with a league best record of 61-21.

The Spurs will play the Cleveland Cavaliers twice this season. The possible NBA Finals preview will serve as motivation for San Antonio to send an early message. When you’re the king, everyone wants the crown. There is no doubt the Spurs will get everyone’s best shot this year, especially in the playoffs. This will be their most challenging campaign to date. They’ll pull it off, but it’s going to take a Game 7 in each of the four rounds of the NBA playoffs. Much like their seven game battle with the Dallas Mavericks last season, San Antonio will be tested.

In four previous attempts, the Spurs were unable to successfully repeat as NBA champions. This year has all the makings of the perfect storm for San Antonio’s title hopes. They have returned all the pieces from last year’s championship puzzle, added the coaching of Ettore Messina and Becky Hammon, and they’re as healthy as they’ve ever been (minus Patty Mills). The elusive repeat won’t slip out of the Spurs’ reach this year.

Last season was a rough one for Tony Parker. Despite his averages of 16.7 points, 5.7 assists, and 2.3 rebounds, he was never 100 percent, and it showed. Gregg Popovich had to sit Parker out for a stretch of games during the season due to a “variety of maladies.” With the whole summer off, expect Parker to come back with a vengeance. He will save his best performance for the NBA Finals and earn the NBA Finals MVP.
