The Thunder are coming off a tough playoff exit to the NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs and just lost reigning MVP, Kevin Durant, for 6-8 weeks. Here are five reasons why there is still plenty to be excited about in OKC.

Thunder GM Sam Presti has been phenomenal in building this organization. The team is young, athletic and full of potential stars. Look for Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb, Steven Adams and others to improve and make an impact this year.

To be the best you have to beat the best, and since the Western Conference is the best, the Thunder have an opportunity to again establish themselves as a top team in the league. Playing the league’s best competition will no doubt prepare the team for a title run.

Westbrook has improved each and every year. Not only is he making better decisions, but it also seems as though he’s making more athletic plays than previously. He’ll have help from Serge Ibaka, and some time with Durant sidelined may give Westbrook an opportunity to shine like never before.

2. Kevin Durant

Durant is injured and no team wants to go without a reigning NBA MVP, but he is expected to be out only 6-8 weeks. The NBA season is much longer than that, and OKC fans can be sure to expect big things from Durant come January.

The Thunder are such a young team, but they have been competing for the NBA Championship for years now. Thunder fans shouldn’t expect that to change this year. They should look forward to another deep playoff run this season.
