Wait, what? The San Antonio Spurs play in the Eastern Conference now?
Never mind, it is just the Chicago Bulls. Hold on again, the Bulls can score now?
The Bulls are the Spurs of the Eastern Conference, as this team is loaded with offensive talent 10 players deep. Chicago proved this in their win over the New York Knicks Wednesday night, in which the Bulls took them apart handily and were never challenged after the first quarter was over.
Yes, Derrick Rose returned to form, scoring 13 points and doing it in Rose fashion by penetrating into the lane and being a blur up and down the court. Newly acquired Pau Gasol also had a large impact on the game, putting up 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting in his Bulls debut. Probably the most impressive part of this Bulls team, however, is going to be the bench moving forward.
Chicago’s bench outscored the starters 55-49, in no small part to the antics of Taj Gibson, Doug McDermott and Aaron Brooks. All three players shot the ball efficiently and created great looks for themselves and each other in the process. The ball movement between everyone on the team was superb all night, and was what really separated this Bulls team from any of the previous incarnations over the last few years.
Everyone knows the Bulls are going to be solid defensively thanks to head coach Tom Thibodeau, but if the Bulls can keep moving the ball well and shooting like they did against the Knicks, then it is going to be a long season for the rest of the Eastern Conference, even for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Bulls have depth at every single position, and almost everyone on the roster can score in bunches. The best part of the offensive onslaught for the Bulls was probably the fact Jimmy Butler did not even play, yet the team was still able to unleash havoc when scoring the basketball.
Teams are going to have to fear Chicago this season if the offense is going to move the ball and operate in a similar fashion to the Spurs. For the first time in a long while, the Bulls are a major threat offensively, something the Chicago fan base has been waiting to say for years.
