Wednesday night the Philadelphia 76ers opened up their 2014-15 season inside of Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Despite the 103-91 final score in favor of the Indiana Pacers, there were some bright spots for the young 76ers, who are not expected to accomplish much this season. In what was something that the team can certainly build off of, starting point guard Tony Wroten, who is starting in place of the injured Michael Carter-Williams, proved early and often that he will be the guy that his teammates can lean on all season long.

After recording three steals in the first quarter and leading the 76ers out in transition for most of the night, Wroten finished the game with an incredible stat line of 22 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals. But, Wroten wasn’t the only Sixers guard who shined in the team’s loss.

In 24 minutes off of the bench, newly acquired guard Alexey Shved showed he will be a guy head coach Brett Brown can call on whenever he needs instant offense off his bench. In the third quarter Wednesday night, Shved made three three-pointers en route to a 12 point quarter. He would finish the night with 18 points, good for second highest total on the team.

So, although the 76ers recorded their first loss of the 2014-15 season, something the entire franchise is expecting a lot of this season, Wroten and Shved put their improved skills on display for everyone to see. In a year that is all about development, Wroten and Shved should to be two of the players that really benefit from a high dose of valuable minutes.
