The Chicago Bulls are riding high after winning their season-opener in their 2014-15 NBA campaign. Not only did the season star off with a victory for them, but they also saw new addition Pau Gasol absolutely dominate on the offensive end while their star point guard in Derrick Rose looked solid and stayed healthy.
There’s no question that the Bulls are one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference heading into this season. They are the most assuredly deep team in the conference while they also boast a bevy of talent at the top of their roster. However, there’s always room to improve, which is something that this team might look to do this season.
As the year wears on for the Bulls, you can’t rule out the possibility of them looking to execute a trade so that they are able to reach their maximum potential. It’s unlikely that they’ll trade one of their top guys, but if you start looking at their role players, trading someone like Tony Snell might be an extremely positive move for this team.
Though they are a bit thinner at the moment given the fact that Jimmy Butler isn’t healthy, the Bulls are now quite deep on the wings. You’d have to say that Kirk Hinrich, Mike Dunleavy, Butler and Doug McDermott all come in ahead of him on the depth chart. Considering that E’Twaun Moore is behind him as well right now, they have a solid option to fill his shoes if they were to ship him out.
What makes Snell an interesting trade chip is obviously the unknown about him as a prospect. He struggled as a rookie in a very limited role last season, but he’s also a player that has discernable NBA skills that isn’t going to have room to develop in Chicago as they currently stand. That could be something that teams could jump at. Meanwhile, the Bulls could in-turn target some help behind Rose beyond Aaron Brooks and Hinrich (to a lesser degree).
Snell is still a relatively unknown commodity at this point, which is always a bit nerve-racking to trade away if you’re an NBA team, but he’s also a player that doesn’t help them in their legitimate quest for a title this season. By that standard, he should be a player that the Bulls should look into dealing.
