Memphis Grizzlies Should Strongly Consider Trading Tayshaun Prince

It’s crazy to deny the fact that Memphis Grizzlies forward Tayshaun Prince hasn’t had a successful career in the NBA. During his time with the Detroit Pistons, he helped them become one of the more dominant teams in the Eastern Conference during the mid-2000s. Even in his when he first joined the Grizz, he was a valuable wing presence and defender.

Those days are long since gone, though. Prince had his worst season since his rookie campaign last year with Memphis, struggling in virtually every aspect. With Quincy Pondexter injured, he was forced to stay in the rotation and actually hurt the Grizzlies chances at going further than they did in the postseason.

Now that Pondexter is healthy and that Vince Carter has joined the team, there seems to be no room for Prince in the rotation. When you get past the filler, Prince is now an expendable commodity for the Grizzlies and someone they should undoubtedly look to trade if they can find a buyer.

For a team that’s looking for a veteran presence to not necessarily contribute but that can provide leadership, Prince could be a player that would peak their interest. Granted, the Grizzlies probably shouldn’t expect much in return that would help them immediately, but grabbing a second round pick and/or a prospect for Prince would be a good haul for them as they look towards the future.

If the Grizzlies deal Prince, it likely won’t affect their chances this season. If they don’t deal Prince, it likely won’t affect their chances for this season. However, the former gives them a better look for the future. Given that, trading Prince seems like a deal that needs to be made for Memphis.
