Josh McRoberts Needs To Adjust To Miami Heat’s Offense Quickly

After the Miami Heat’s fiery 3-0 start, the franchise has lost their last two games and is now at a mediocre 3-2 in the East. A stagnant offense seems to be this team’s biggest weakness at the moment, even with Chris Bosh’s recent resurgence. One key player from the starting lineup who has yet to make an impact is Josh McRoberts, who is still slowly recovering from the toe surgery he had this past summer.

If you look at the Heat’s two consecutive losses, one common theme is the lack of scoring in crucial quarters of close games. The type of offense that McRoberts provides will be a huge boost for the starting lineup once he adjusts to the Heat’s playbook, but this needs to happen sooner rather than later. Even after five games, the lack of depth on offense compared to last season is noticeable, but that was a given considering who left the Heat this summer.

Last season with the Charlotte Bobcats, McRoberts averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. He led the league in assists at the power forward position last season as well, which was a major selling point in the Heat’s acquisition of him this summer. It’s unfortunate to watch McRoberts struggling as much as he has been over the last four games. His usually amazing passes are completely out of sync, his jumps for rebounds are off and, most noticeably, his ball handling is off balance.

The Heat need last season’s McRoberts to make an appearance soon, otherwise the offense could continue sputtering at crucial times throughout critical games. It is going to take a steady increase in minutes in order for McRoberts to regain his balance. Good thing it’s still the beginning of the season.
