The rumors are flying around the Cleveland Cavaliers camp thanks in large part to the team’s slow start. After just six games, it was reported that new Cavalier Kevin Love is keeping his options open for next season and may have his eyes on another team.

Although it’s just a rumor, it had to come from somewhere, and if there is any truth to it, Love chasing a ring will leave a bad taste in the mouths of NBA fans. The rumored Love situation is sounding a lot like the Dwight Howard debacle. Howard urged the Orlando Magic organization to trade him to his preferred teams. When Howard was finally traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, people assumed the Lakers would be heading back to the NBA Finals. Unfortunately for the Lakers, the dream didn’t come to fruition and they struggled all season. Howard’s stint in Los Angeles ended after just one year with unsatisfactory results and he moved down south. Howard’s antics made him one of the more disliked players in the league. He had no loyalty to any team and his hot pursuit of a championship ring seemed desperate.

The same thing happened with Love’s teammate LeBron James when he took his talents to South Beach. James became hated around the league not just because of the theatrics with “The Decision,” but because according to Cavaliers fans, he was abandoning his home and jumping off of the ship before it sank all the way to the bottom.

As NBA players, the goal is to win a championship, but championships are won by teams that were built and developed. If Love leaves after just one disappointing season with the Cavaliers, it will make people hate him. The fact that these rumors are flying so early in the season is really disheartening for fans of the NBA, the Cavaliers and Love. There is no guarantee that leaving the Cavaliers will bring Love his much desired ring. The Cavaliers, just like many of the other elite NBA teams, are struggling now, but it doesn’t mean the struggles will continue.

Love has never experienced a postseason; before spending his time chasing a ring, he should spend it just trying to get some playoff experience.
