The Kobe Bryant haters are loving this one — no player in NBA history has missed more shots than the Black Mamba. That’s a fact.
Bryant set the dubious record on Tuesday night, going 10 for 26 from the field, as the Los Angeles Lakers dropped to 1-6 on the young season. Kobe has now missed 13,418 shots, surpassing the old mark of 13,417 long-held by John Havlicek (last played in 1978).
If anything, it’s appropriate that Bryant holds this record. He’s always had the reputation of a score-first guy, and he’s also never been afraid to keep shooting. The Black Mamba is a scorer at heart. Always has been, always will be. He’s going to attempt to get his, even on nights when he’s not exactly feeling it.
Kobe’s way of doing things has led to five championships and list of individual accomplishments a mile long. He’s missed a ton of shots along the way. So what?
