Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose Doesn’t Always Properly Express Himself
Over the years, the Chicago Bulls‘ Derrick Rose hasn’t always exactly properly expressed himself or said what he means to say, and that situation arose again when he made comments about thinking about his future and life after basketball when he sits out games.
There are many athletes who are great public speakers and are very deliberate and calculated with their words — see: Russell Wilson and Peyton Manning. But Rose isn’t one to have intent behind his words and sometimes it comes off the wrong way.
Just because he says he is more aware of the future doesn’t mean he isn’t focused on the present. Rose is more committed than ever to basketball and winning a championship, and anyone who thinks otherwise lacks the knowledge of what Rose has always and will continue to be about. He is still the same player who would “die on the court,” but he is just smarter in taking care of his body. Sometimes you have to sacrifice games in November and December in order to be ready for games in April, May and into June.
His teammates know better than anyone how committed he is to the Bulls and what his mindset is, and Tom Thibodeau said, “we can all say things better at times.” We are all guilty of not being able to articulate what we really want to say and sometimes the media can get the best of Rose. Yet people still wonder why he skips out on talking to the media after games. However, he is leaps and bounds ahead of where he was when he first entered the league.
Oftentimes, his ‘handlers’ fill him up with nonsense, and you can tell he is saying what he is told to say, not what he actually thinks. This became evident when he was recovering from his knee injuries.
You can’t fault Rose for being concerned about his long-term future, and he certainly could have worded his comments differently. But as Mike Dunleavy said, his commitment to the team and to the city shouldn’t ever be in question.
