The Los Angeles Lakers do not have much to be happy about after an extremely slow start to the season, but Ed Davis has represented one of the lone bright spots. The Lakers were able to sign Davis in the offseason to an extremely team-friendly deal, and he has not let them down. He has been their best player coming off of the bench, and has the potential to get even better as the season goes on.
The Lakers lack quality defenders on the team and are constantly getting beat off of the dribble on the perimeter. They do not have a prototypical rim protector in their starting lineup, and struggle for stretches on the defensive end. When Davis comes into the game, he gives them more options on defense, as he is athletic enough to help on the perimeter while being a true shot blocker in the paint. He is not afraid to give hard personal fouls, and forces opposing players to earn their baskets.
Offensively, he plays within himself, showing an excellent feel for running the court and finishing in the paint. He has great explosion around the rim and is always looking for passes from his teammates. He is averaging almost three offensive rebounds per game, and battles to create second chances for his team.
Davis’s athleticism has been a welcome sight for the team, as he is one of the few players capable of playing quality defense on the roster. He does a good job of covering the mistakes of his teammates, and understands his role as a rim-protector. He knows how to finish on the offensive end of the court and is always working hard to help his team win. He has played well to start the season and should continue to earn more minutes based off of his play.
