Phoenix Suns Must Take Advantage Of Easy Road Trip
After starting the season 5-5 and only defeating two teams with winning records, the Phoenix Suns are about to head east to face some of the bottom-feeders in the NBA.
The Los Angeles Clippers game o Saturday night was telling of how they fare against some of the better competition in the stacked Western Conference. They led the Clippers in nearly every statistical category after the first half, but were only tied at 54. A dismal third quarter where the Clippers scored 42 points ended any hope of the Suns staying above .500 before taking on the Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Philadelphia 76ers and Indiana Pacers.
It was obvious the Clippers were the team on five days rest and the Suns were the team playing a back-to-back. They just could not keep up.
The combined record of those four teams on the Suns’ schedule is 9-27. The Suns will end their road trip against the 7-2 Toronto Raptors on the 24th before returning home to play the Denver Nuggets the 26th. Of their five road games, the Suns need to win at least four of them. They have looked too inconsistent this season, beating the Spurs and Golden State Warriors, but losing to the Clippers, Utah Jazz and Charlotte Hornets.
This road trip is the perfect opportunity for the Suns to work out their inconsistencies and gain some ground in the west. It will undoubtedly be their easiest road trip of the year. If we don’t see a more cohesive unit on the court and the Suns don’t take advantage of this road trip, they may find themselves trying to play catch-up for the first half of the regular season.
