Portland Trail Blazers Should Strongly Consider Trading C.J. McCollum

The Portland Trailblazers are off to another impressive start this season, only a game and a half back from the top spot in the ridiculously competitive Western Conference. There are a lot of positive things going on in Portland, such as LaMarcus Aldridge playing like the franchise player we all knew he could be, or Damien Lillard becoming one of the top point guards in the NBA.

With that being said, there are still a few issues in terms of depth that the Trailblazers need to address, and one of these issues is at the small forward position. Outside of Nicolas Batum, the Trailblazers don’t really have another quality player in the rotation to enhance the small forward position. That is why the Trailblazers organization should consider trading C.J. McCollum.

Although McCollum has played quite well (notching the third highest PER among all guards on the roster), the Trailblazers have a lot of depth at the guard position, with Damien Lillard, Steve Blake, Wesley Matthews and Will Barton all ahead of McCollum in the rotation. McCollum was the 10th pick in the first round of this year’s NBA draft, so the Trailblazers could potentially get a quality veteran small forward in return, one that could bolster that position when Batum isn’t on the court.

The Trailblazers have depth at pretty much every position except small forward, but heading into the playoffs in the Western Conference, most of the teams they could potentially play against have superstar small forwards. This is why the depth at this position has to be addressed, and with there being so many guards on the Trailblazers roster, someone has to be traded. This unfortunately should be C.J. McCollum.
