Memphis Grizzlies Should Strongly Consider Trading Beno Udrih
The Memphis Grizzlies are currently the best team in the NBA, leading the league with an 11-2 record, and showing that defense does indeed lead to overall success. The Grizzlies are holding their opponents to 92.5 points per game, which is third best in the league, and have arguably the best frontcourt pair in Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph helping them do it. The season is still very young, though, and anything could happen to potentially derail this team, which is precisely why the Grizzlies should consider trading Beno Udrih.
Outside of Gasol and Randolph, the Grizzlies don’t have a lot of depth in their frontcourt rotation. Kosta Koufos is the only other big man on the roster that can actually hold his own defensively, but relying on a backup big man that only averages 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game is not a recipe for long-term success.
The backcourt rotation for the Grizzlies, however, is a lot deeper, with Mike Conley, Courtney Lee, Tony Allen and Vince Carter all seeing minutes over Udrih in the rotation. Even with the lack of minutes, Udrih is averaging the third highest PER among all guards on the Grizzlies roster, which means his production could be valuable to a lot of other teams in the league, especially ones that are woefully short in backcourt depth.
The Grizzlies must find another backup to shore up the depth at the center and power forward positions. If either Gasol or Randolph go down for an extended period of time, without a quality back up big man, this team could begin losing games in bunches, which wouldn’t be good considering the Grizzlies play in the ultra competitive Western Conference.
