Danny Granger’s Insertion Into Rotation Needs To Be Quicker For Miami Heat

The Miami Heat could have used Danny Granger’s shooting abilities from the wing these past couple of games, especially the ones where Dwyane Wade was absent due to his hamstring injury. The offense just hasn’t flowed smoothly since Wade went down almost eight games ago while playing against the Indiana Pacers, and having a player of Granger’s offensive capabilities could have made the difference in some of these close game losses the Heat have had recently.

Granger hasn’t done anything substantial statistically while playing in a Heat uniform this season, only averaging three points and one rebound on 38 percent shooting from the field while playing in two games. It isn’t so much about what Granger is doing at the moment, but more about his potential that has the Heat fanbase clamoring for his insertion into the rotation as quickly as possible. There was a time when Granger was one of the best small forwards in the league, averaging at one point in his career 25.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists, playing a hefty 36 minutes a game.

Injuries have derailed Granger’s career in terms of upward ascension into the stratosphere of NBA elites, but again, enough potential lies dormant that the Heat decided to give the nine year veteran another go at revitalizing his career, and hopefully jumpstarting the Heat’s offense off the bench. Coach Erik Spoelstra has already made it known that Granger is 100 percent ready to go, but has yet to give him quality minutes to back up his claim. If there was ever a time to give Granger an opportunity to playing extended minutes, now is the time. Otherwise, the offense could continue to suffer, and even worse, the losses could begin pilling up for the Heat.
