The month of November hasn’t been the easiest one for the San Antonio Spurs, but their future looks good with Kawhi Leonard. Leonard has battled an eye infection in both eyes, and still made his presence known on both ends of the court for the Spurs. He has continually improving offensive repertoire and sits as the anchor of the second best defense in the NBA.
Leonard is putting up 15.2 points per game this month and pulling down 7.6 rebounds per game. This is pretty impressive considering he hasn’t been able to see clearly due to his eye infection. He has scored over double-figures in all but two games.
His career-high in scoring came in an important road test against the Los Angeles Clippers. Leonard scored 26 points and snagged 10 rebounds, but it was his defense that solidified the game and proved his worth. In the closing minutes of close game, Leonard’s versatility allowed him to guard Chris Paul, which is no easy feat for a guard, much more a small forward. With his length, Leonard ripped Paul for a big time steal and closed the game out.
Teams had a hard time with Leonard because of his ability to do so many things well. Leonard recorded double-digits rebounds five times this month and gathered 14 boards against the New Orleans Pelicans for the most this month.
The only weak spot in Leonard’s game is his turnovers. He is averaging nearly two turnovers per game in November and notched two games with four turnovers. If Leonard can get over his temporary carelessness of the ball, his game will be airtight.
