It was looking ugly for the San Antonio Spurs early on.
They didn’t jump out to the kind of start a repeat champion hopeful would aim for, but they have been able to right the ship since then. The current six-game win streak and high level of basketball is all thanks to one of the most underrated point guards in the game today: Tony Parker.
He really turned his game up in November, helping the Spurs to go 11-4 for the month. They still have one more game to go against the Boston Celtics, which they are likely to win, so November will have been a crucial month that propels the Spurs into dominance once they look back. With Parker at the helm, the Spurs owe most of these win to the aggressive play of the veteran point guard.
Parker has made it a poignant mission to attack the paint every time down the floor. He pushes the ball extremely hard and pressures the defense to make a decision early in the shot clock. This has helped the Spurs’ struggling offense get the ball moving and find the open shot.
In November, Parker averaged 17.3 points, 5.6 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game. He’s been playing the driving force, literally and figuratively, for the Spurs and has propelled their offense with his outrageous shooting.
In 13 games, Parker is shooting an unbelievable 55.6 percent from the three-point line in November and 66.7 percent on the year. He is currently the NBA all-time leader in three-point shooting percentage through 15 games.
This is an even more amazing feat considering the fact that Parker’s biggest weakness used to be the long-range ball. Parker is a career 32.2-percent shooter from beyond the arc and is now one of the most dangerous shooters in the game right now. His offseason rest looks to have paid amazing dividends so far. Parker had a November for the books and must keep it up for the Spurs to remain amongst the top teams in the league.
