One of the most interesting phenomenon in the NBA and specifically the Atlanta Hawks in recent years is how the performance of Jeff Teague has changed as soon as it has been time for postseason play. When you talk to people concerned with the NBA, the term “Playoff Teague” is one that is understood as a thing and something to expect.

In every season that he and the Hawks have made the playoffs, Teague’s production has spiked when he gets into the postseason. Sure, his efficiency may not have held up, but he’s played like a more inspired and aggressive player when the lights of the postseason are on.

For some reason, Teague seems to think it’s the playoffs right now, or at least he’s playing like it is.

Coming into their game on Saturday night, Teague has been on a tear. Over his last five games, the point guard has averaged 25.8 points, 6.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. The most notable part of his rise in production is the fact his efficiency hasn’t suffered and has in fact spiked as Teague has hit on 53.8 percent of his field goal attempts and 50 percent of his three-point attempts over this five-game run.

The talent of Teague has never really been put into question, but the aggressiveness and consistency of Teague has definitely been a concern at times over his career. With Al Horford back in the lineup but not totally looking like himself right now, the Hawks need Teague to play at a higher level if they want to stay relevant in the East. It’s just a short run at the end of the first month of the season, but that seems to be exactly what Teague is trying to do right now.
