The Los Angeles Clippers rolled their way to their seventh straight win on Saturday night. The Clippers have finally silenced many of the early-season critics by climbing their way back up the Western Conference standings and are currently sitting in the No. 6 seed just behind the San Antonio Spurs.
Although people are not criticizing the Clippers the same way they were a month ago, it seems as if no one is talking about their success. The only win streak anyone is talking about belongs to the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors’ current 12-game winning streak is a franchise best, and it has thrown them on top of league standings to everyone’s surprise.
The lack of discussion about the streak of the Clippers stems from the fact that their success is a surprise to no one. The Clippers’ early-season struggles were not going to continue even with a lack of bench productivity. The Clippers have worked too hard and have revamped the team too much to fail. The surprise would be if they continued to struggle and they produced a bad season after a franchise best season last year. This was the team people were expecting to see at the very start of the season, and now that they have reached that point, no one is all that surprised.
The Clippers’ seven-game road trip turned things around for the team completely. The first few games, fans saw a team that looked confused, easily frustrated and just downright getting outplayed. Now the Clippers have grown in confidence and are not just winning games — they are wiping the floor with the opposing teams. If the Clippers played the way they are playing now in the beginning of the season, they would definitely be butting heads with the Warriors for the top spot.
With the way the Clippers look, this win streak could continue for quite awhile. The Clippers don’t play a team with a better record than them until Dec. 22 in San Antonio against the Spurs. Now that the Clippers have taken on their true form and identity, the rest of the Western Conference should be on notice.
