The New York Knicks have not been at their best this season, but that doesn’t mean everyone on the team is an underachiever. Despite a terrible record and a lot of heart-breaking close losses, one player that has been at his best this season is the Knicks’ Amare Stoudemire.

A lot was expected for Stoudemire when he signed one of the biggest NBA contracts in history back in 2010. The Knicks inked Stoudemire to a five-year, $99.7 million dollar contract and the organization expected him to be the face of the team — that was until Carmelo Anthony came along.

It’s been a bumpy ride for Stoudemire during his time in New York and he started off well in his first year, averaging 25.3 points and 8.2 rebounds. Over time, Stoudemire faced a slew of injuries that began to slow him down.

Many people have called Stoudemire a bust due to his large contract, and rightfully so. But now in 2014, Stoudemire is not the same player he was during his time with the Phoenix Suns or anything like that, but he is playing some of his best basketball in a Knicks jersey. A big reason for that is because he is fully healthy.

What makes Stoudemire the MVP of this Knicks team this season is his consistency.

Along with Anthony, who is always considered to be the MVP of the Knicks, Stoudemire has not been flashy, but he’s been solid. Right now, he is averaging 12.9 points per game with 7.9 rebounds as well. Sure, he’s not putting up huge numbers that would justify his contract, but he is playing hard every night and just by watching him you can tell that he’s finally healthy — even though it may be a little too late for Knicks fans to care.

The Knicks have had a lot of up-and-down players this season from the likes of J.R. Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr., but it’s nice to see Stoudemire playing well and finally healthy for his potential last season in a Knicks jersey.
