J.J. Redick Has Been Los Angeles Clippers’ Most Disappointing Player This Season

The Los Angeles Clippers had a stellar season last year with the addition of J.J. Redick. Redick was a strong shooter for the Clippers a year ago and a piece they needed desperately. The Clippers and their fans were putting their eggs in the Redick basket this season in hopes that he would put up the same great performance as last year. Unfortunately for Clipper Nation, Redick has had more downs than ups so far this season.
Redick’s season averages are down across the board this season in comparison to a year ago. Although Redick’s stats have not dropped significantly for any real worry, he is a starter who people expect more from.
In Monday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns, the Clippers somehow got Redick free with just over a minute left in overtime. Redick missed an open jump shot just a few feet from the basket. Last season, that is a shot Redick definitely would have made.
The issue is not that Redick has been disappointing as a whole; the issue is that so much is expected of him. As a starter, Redick is surrounded by the expectation that each night he will have over 20 points and make nearly all of his shots. Redick has actually only achieved over 20 points just four times this season and under 10 points four times as well. When the Clippers played the Orlando Magic on Nov. 19, Redick only scored three points and one assist.
In no way is Redick a disappointing player, but he has given the Clippers some disappointing performances this season in comparison to a year ago. It’s safe to say Redick is still an important piece for the Clippers, but if he continues to put up games with less than 10 points and struggles during crucial game moments, Redick will be the most disappointing player for the Clippers this season.
