After the San Antonio Spurs picked Kyle Anderson with the No. 30 pick in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft, the sky was the limit for the both parties. With the season progressing and the Spurs getting into the thick of their schedule, the sky seems to have fallen for the rookie from UCLA. The expectations weren’t necessarily high, but Anderson has still failed to make any kind of impact.

It only took seven games for the Spurs to send their underachieving guard-forward to an NBA Developmental League assignment with the Austin Spurs. He has since then returned to the team and been used sparingly.

Through 10 games, Anderson is averaging 0.9 points per game. He hasn’t been able to find the rim from beyond the arc (zero percent) and is only shooting 11.1 percent from the field on 3-of-27 shooting. His style of play is a more laid back and slower-paced game, but it seems as though he just hasn’t adjusted to the speed of the NBA.

There is still hope for the youngster, who just turned 21 years of age. He is under the tutelage of arguably the best coach in NBA history in Gregg Popovich and he’s a member of one of the best teams ever to play the game. He has a front row seat to greatness, which has to rub off sooner or later. The Spurs would hope sooner because they could really use another body with all the injuries arising on the roster.

Anderson has all the potential to be a great piece in the Spurs’ system. For him, he is going to have to be a student of the game and learn on the run. Trial and error will push this disappointing performance into stardom in the near future.
