Heading into the 2014 NBA Draft, much of the attention surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers focused on their two top-10 picks. However, it is one of their second-round picks who has been making noise in 2014. The beginning of the 2014-15 season has brought about the emergence of K.J. McDaniels. Despite being the 32nd player selected in 2014, McDaniels has become one of the front-runners in this season's Rookie of the Year chase.

After missing the entire 2013-14 season recovering from a torn ACL, Nerlens Noel finally made his much-anticipated NBA debut on Oct. 29, 2014. Despite struggling on offense in his debut, Noel showed flashes of brilliance on defense as he recorded 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Noel certainly didn't take the league by storm in his debut, but he showed why 76ers fans should be excited about him being a part of the team’s future.

After Sam Hinkie took over as general manager of the 76ers, he did his best to get rid of any evidence of the previous regime. Although he got rid of most, some pieces still remained. In February of 2014 Hinkie got rid of guys such as Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes. During the 2014-15 offseason he got rid of the rest by trading Thaddeus Young and Arnett Moultrie. With nothing left, Hinkie now can fully put his own stamp on this historic franchise.

Entering the 2014 NBA Draft many 76ers fans were upset that the team would not walk away with either Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker. But that has changed greatly in just a few short months. Joel Embiid has used his presence on social media to win over the highly-critical Philadelphia fans. Aside from social media brilliance, Embiid also gives the 76ers a legitimate seven-footer that they can build a championship roster around.

2014 had a few good moments for the Philadelphia 76ers, but none were better than point guard Michael Carter-Williams being named NBA Rookie of the Year. In a year that saw the team suffer through a 26-game losing streak, winning the award was not only a joyous moment for Carter-Williams, but it was also a big achievement for the entire 76ers franchise.
