At this point it is safe to say that the Miami Heat just plain stink. Not only as a team, but at the moment they stink as an organization because of the foolishness that they are letting coach Erik Spoelstra get away with.
That’s not to say that the losing is entirely his fault, but I have explained numerous times why he truly deserves a healthy portion of the blame for his team’s woes and why the team will not put the pressure on him for it.
However, he would probably benefit from a little heat under his seat as an incentive to stop making dumb decisions like occasionally dropping the three-point shooting of Shawne Williams out of the lineup or having a healthy Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade both sitting on the bench when the offense is already pretty anemic with them playing.
It is all just a part of the unexplainable habits coming out of South Beach this season. It’s a season that has seen the team lose four of their last five games, with three straight coming at the hands of teams with terrible records. And to make things worse, each of those games included blown double-digit leads in the third quarter largely due to their other problem.
While the team seems to have solved their rebound and rim protection issues with the tandem of Chris Andersen and Hassan Whiteside, Miami’s point guards have a combined average of six points per game.
Technically Wade has been their best floor general, averaging their amount of points in assists; and that’s all with no solid backup shooting guard, because Mario Chalmers has quickly returned to something closer to the pumpkin that he was in last year’s NBA Finals than the key cog that he was in the beginning of the season. As a result the Heat find themselves five games below .500 for the first time in seven years and first time under Spoelstra.
All of the talk out of Miami has been about progress and showing signs of getting better, but it is time for the team shut their mouths and just show it in the new year.
